Kermit Lynch is one of my favorite importers. Always reliable, I will routinely buy wines based upon nothing but his name on the back.

This wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from the Vaucluse region of Provence. It channels the wonderful black cherry, plum, and peppery spice that I love from Rhone wines, but at a price that is perfect for a mid-week evening.

This weeks wine comes from Ole Imports, a company new to Alabama, specializing in Spanish selections. Zestos, from Vinos Sin-Ley is an unoaked blend of 50% Tempranillo and 50% Garnacha, resulting in a easy to sip, fruit forward table wine, with a good balance. This is a great selection for hot-weather quaffing. A great value at the price!

After months of patience, the much anticipated 2007 Vintage of Hofer Gruner Veltliner is here!

For many of my customers this wine needs no introduction, but if you are one of the few who is not familiar allow me to assist.

Gruner Veltliner is the flagship white grape of Austria. Soft and light, but deeply flavorful and rich, this wine has lovely notes of citrus with a very light peppery spice, finishing clean and refreshing.

Edna Valley Chardonnay is a full, round Chardonnay with notes of white peach and citrus, finishing with a subtle minerality. A great choice for any Chardonnay lover.

To me, Chianti is such a widely produced wine that it typically becomes boring and dull, and as a general rule I never buy it for personal consumption. Fortunately, for every rule, there are exceptions. This Chianti Colli Senesi from Palazzo Bandino captures the best of approachable fruit, plenty of acidity for pairing with food, soft, mellow tannins and an earthy structure that ties it all together. A good reminder that Chianti, when produced with expertise and passion, is one of the world’s most recognizable wines for a reason.
